Fleet Farming Apprentice – Orlando, FL (2 positions)

Position Description
Apprenticing for the Fleet Farming program is ideal for someone who is passionate about local, organic food and interested in furthering their experience in the world of urban farming. Apprentices will assist on location with seeding, weeding, tending to plots, and harvesting. Through the program, the apprentice will learn about sustainability, installing farmlettes, seeding, growing greens and other edibles, installing irrigation, time management, effectively working in groups, community outreach, and much more. Applicants should be eager to learn, hard working with a positive attitude, interested in plants, friendly and ready to share some laughs. All duties and responsibilities listed below are facilitated under close observation through a mentor-trainee relationship.

 


IMG_1879Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assist in planting and harvesting weekly
  • Maintaining plots (employing integrative pest management, natural weed control, etc.)
  • Assist in garden installs for in-ground beds and DIY irrigation systems
  • Set up and assist at the Audubon Park Community Market stand 1-2 Monday evenings/month
  • Attend Swarm Rides with the Fleet Team and Community
  • Commuting with Farm Manager to/from micro‐farms via bicycle with trailer (will use truck for delivering compost)
  • Additional tasks that may arise to carry out the success of the program


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Some experience in farming and Basic knowledge of plants
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Positive attitude, sense of humor is a plus
  • Strong teamwork skills


Outcome

  • Resume-building experience and references
  • Inside experience with a highly active and United Nations-accredited non-governmental organization

Position Description
Interning for the Fleet Farming program is ideal for someone who is passionate about local, organic food and interested in furthering their experience in the world of urban farming. This particular position will focus on our gleaning program, Fleet Fruits. Interns will assist on location with locating fruit trees, harvesting fruit, and distribution of produce. Through the program, the intern will learn about food waste, growing fruit, sustainability, localizing food, time management, effectively working in groups, community outreach, and much more. Applicants should be eager to learn, hard working with a positive attitude, and have a sense of humor. All duties + responsibilities listed below are facilitated under close observation through a mentor-trainee relationship.

Duties/Responsibilities
• Collecting and processing fruit from registered trees
• Communicating with fruit tree owners
• Assist in finding outlets for produce distribution
• Outreach for more fruit trees
• Assist in farmlette maintenance
• Assist in mapping and profiling fruit trees
• Researching harvesting schedules for fruit tree varieties
• Commuting with Farm Coordinator to plots and trees
• Propagation of existing trees
• Additional tasks that may arise to carry out the success of the program

• Basic knowledge of plants/fruit trees

• Must love biking
